Gössa
Anders Andersson (1878-1963) was one of the most important carriers
of the Swedish folk fiddle tradition. During his whole active time
as a fiddler, he was the 'grand old man' of fiddling, and a great
source of inspiration for the fidddlers in the area.
It
all started in the 1910s, when the local historical and cultural
association ('hembydgsföreningen') various events
gather large crowds of participants. We normally reckon 1948 as
the year when the Orsa fiddlers' group ('spelmanslag')
came into being; Gössa Anders group started as a family trio,
with father, son, and daughter Gössa Anna Andersson (born 1906).
The
recordings were made in 1950 at the Swedish Radio Company in Stockholm.
Scratches, hum and clicks have been removed as much as possible
without allowing the fiddle sound to suffer; we also hear a subtle
stereo effect - which was not of course present in the original
recordings - for more enjoyable listening. |
