KRCD-29: Marie Bengtsson - Claude Debussy
Marie Bengtson was born
in Malung, Sweden, studied in Stockholm, Lucerne and Essen, and received
her soloist diploma in Lucerne in 1984. She has performed as a soloist,
with chamber groups and as an accompanist in Sweden, Denmark, Germany and
Switzerland.
Marie says:
"I
am fascinated by Debussy's ability to use tones and sounds to paint
the colours of nature and convey its moods registering all its nuances
of varying light, the elusiveness and boundlessness of it all.
"It
is a powerful experience to travel with Debussy to different countries
and environments: an evening in Granada, an oriental landscape dotted
with pagodas, rain-drenched gardens in France.
"In
his music I see magic moonglow over mountains, a cloud gliding across
the sky, rays of sunshine glittering playfully on the waves of the sea."
Although
this is virtuoso music of the highest degree, the listener hardly notices
it. The mood is very relaxing and the beauty of Debussy's music is striking.
The recording
is made with fine vintage valve microphones, contributing to an uncommonly
soft and beautiful piano sound.
